A Quick Note from Jessica
The first time I traveled from Oregon to Cambodia was exhilarating! Almost immediately after I landed in Siem Reap, I knew I felt at home. I could safely wander the streets, shop in the cutest boutiques, stop at coffee shops, grab a cocktail... all of the things I love when exploring a new city. Each day was filled with new temples, new history, and new understandings about this ancient culture. After a whirlwind 2 weeks of exploring, I decided I was coming back and bringing my friends. I would love to share this experience with you, diving deep into our aerial practices, eating local food, and touring the thousand-year-old temples. I can't wait to go back... and you should join me!

Why go all the way to Cambodia to do what you could do at home?
This is NOT your typical train-cation. Dive deep into your aerial practice with Jessica John, and walk through the temples of Angkor Wat on a 6 day/5 night stay in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
I'm not going to take you to the other side of the globe just spend it all in a place that looks an awful lot like your home gym.
This is a trip to the Center of the Universe. Angkor was once the largest kingdom in southeast Asia. The Temple Bayon is famous for being the temple with four faces. In the highest tower (which we will be visiting) you will find yourself in the absolute center of what was the Khmer Empire, at the time considered the literal Center of the Universe.
Our personal tour guide truly makes the trip an experience you will not forget. Be prepared to not only see the temples at their best time, but enjoy private trips to secret spaces of Angkor (including seeing one of the only Buddhas left!) Plus, they have an eye for the best photos for you to remember your trip so you don’t have to keep your camera out the whole time.
We will get off the beaten path and be part of a lunch offering to the local monks. An incredible experience that words cannot express. This pagoda is home to almost 200 monks. And, depending on her schedule, we will get a blessing from Grandma Ak. On my last trip, she met our group and blesses each one of us in the jungle.
Along with tours of the temples, we will be doing daily movement sessions, filled with flexibility, handstands, and somatic work designed to up level your aerial practice. Plus, we will have two half-day aerial sessions in the facilities of the local circus. Given the small nature of this retreat, every person will leave with new connections and understandings of their own personal practice.
As a group, we will experience live contemporary circus shows at Phare, the phenomenal Cambodian Circus. Watching Cambodians share their culture through circus is magical.
There will also be plenty of time to spend time by yourself to explore the beauty of Siem Reap each day and at night after dinner. Don’t be surprised if you end up making new friends among your retreaters and find yourself getting a tattoo or buying all your holiday presents at the market.
There is only space for 20 guests on this retreat, 12 of which can stay on-site. The other 8 can stay off-site at lovely nearby hotels.
This trip is worth sharing with someone you know (spouse, friends, adult family), and spaces will go quickly.
Please chat with me if you have any questions at all. I can’t wait to take this trip with you and share what I love about Cambodia!

Question not answered here?

Hi, I'm Jessica.
I'm an aerial coach and mentor with over a decade in the circus industry. I did not receive the blessings of the aerial illuminati. I did not genuflect.
I was always a creative mover, even if it was just climbing trees in the backyard. When my parallel bar routines did not catch fire on the playground, I moved on to tennis and later dance. I was never particularly gifted in either. In tennis, I was more interested in perfecting my serve than in winning. In dance, I would absorb as much choreography as I could and then drill it for hours in my bedroom to barely keep up. In college, I’d drive two hours to the mountain to ski the same run all day long, watching the conditions change underneath me.
When I found aerial silks and dance trapeze in my early thirties, it felt like coming home. The curiosity that turned me onto tennis, dance, and skiing is the same curiosity that drew me to circus. So I traveled far and wide to seek out teachers. I investigated techniques outside of aerial that unlocked doors to so many skills. I read. I studied. I read some more. I took every performance opportunity that came my way. It wasn't many, so I created my own opportunities. I created companies that eventually got residencies and acclaim, but I went bankrupt self-financing them. So I started over.
I founded Circus Mobility to cultivate virtual feminist aerial community and practice at a time when I could not find the technical and creative mentorship that I craved inside of my local studios. I am honored to be able to share the wisdom of the many great women who inform my personal movement practice.
