In this program, I break fluidity into 4 movement capacities that we will explore and develop across 8 weeks, through a series of lectures and guided movement practice:

CAPACITY 1: MINDFULNESS & PROPRIOCEPTION

THE BODY-MIND MELD

Since you cannot control what you cannot sense, I start by assessing your mental and physical self-awareness and control.

Once you know where you can improve, you'll learn:

  • Body scanning techniques to improve your mental map of sensations in the body.
  • Rituals to prepare your mind for entering states of flow.
  • A series of somatic exercises that you can use as checkpoints in your flow journey.
  • A series of daily exercises you can do to expand your awareness of your environment and unleash your creativity.

After this section, you'll understand where the gaps in your awareness are and what you can do each week to start to fill them in.

CAPACITY 2: MOBILITY & STABILITY

GET STRONG AF

Next, I’ll explain how increasing your physical capacity through strength and mobility training gives you more movement options, and we'll assess your current capacities so you know where YOU should focus.

This section includes:

  • Postural,  breathing, and movement assessments so that you know what your baselines are.
  • A framework to guide your strength and mobility training specifically for fluidity goals.
  • Concrete strategies to implement exactly what you need for your body into your busy schedule.

After this section, you’ll have a customized plan to integrate strength and mobility training into your schedule.

CAPACITY 3: SKILL & TECHNIQUE

TRAINING EFFICIENCY

If only simply learning more skills were enough to be fluid! Your body still has to be able string the skills together in a way that flows. So I’ll go through how you can work on skills in a way that creates more efficiency and opens up more movement pathway potential.

This section includes:

  • How to train technique so that there is not only one right way, but finding the efficiencies for your body.
  • Exercises that you can use over and over in your training sessions to link skills and make novel pathways familiar enough in your body to be able to use them in flow. 

After this module, you’ll start to train for skill acquisition differently, never thinking you're "one and done," but instead getting curious about what "comes next" and "what is possible."

CAPACITY 4: QUALITY & TEXTURE

FROM GLUE TO GOO

Now you have all the major pieces of the puzzle, but you still might not be saying with your body what you want to say. You might be getting more focused and stronger and more mobile, with passable transitions, but it's still more glue than goo. In this last piece, we'll use structured techniques for movement quality training.

This section includes:

  • Learning how to add depth and dimension to your movement by manipulating tension and speed in your body.
  • Exploring the ability to match textures to sound to develop musicality and expanding your choreographic toolkit.

By the end of this part of the program, you'll have an expanded toolkit to train to move the way you want to move and say what you want to say with your body.

HI, I'M JESSICA!

I stumbled upon aerial as an adult, and I was hooked from my first silks class. But a series of injuries early in my journey led me to investigate a better way of both preparing the body for circus work.

I remember sitting in the world's best circus schools, enduring coaches pushing my legs to the floor--just like they did when I was a 15 year old dancer--and struggling to understand how in 20 years so little had changed. 

I realized that if I wanted to do better for my body, I was going to have to find it on my own. I eventually became a Gyrotonic and a Gyrokinesis trainer, spending thousands of hours studying with master trainers and working with clients in a rehabilitative setting. I saw how movement and breath could move people out of pain and into more easeful movement, and I was eager to apply those principles to circus and pole work.

I now work with aerialists and pole dancers across the globe to not just level up their skills, but also to increase their longevity in an art form that demands so much of the mind and body. And I believe that finding more pleasure in our practice is at the center of that. 

This program employs my signature methodologies developed over a 15 year coaching career. Whether you’re new to mobility training or you are just looking to learn new techniques, I look forward to taking this journey together.
