There is a myth about flow. That it just happens if you try hard enough or submit to it like a drug. But it doesn't work that way...

You’re getting a lot of things right in your practice:

  • You’re going to class.
  • You're learning new tricks.
  • And you're practicing what you've learned.

But you still can't flow like your aerial and pole idols do. WTF? 🤨

Right now YOU…

Feel stuck at your current skill level despite regular practice because you don't look how you think you're supposed to look

Find it difficult to connect skills together, making your movements mechanical as opposed to effortless & fluid

Often get injured, which you suspect is due to inefficient technique & overtraining as you're not sure what to prioritize

Look like a deer in the headlights when asked to freestyle, because you cannot think of what to do next & get so uncomfortable in class

Feel alone, because everyone around you only seems to care about the tricks & you're looking to dig deeper

This is because you're waiting for flow to happen instead of taking action to develop a practice of flow.

It's time to stop waiting. At the Unravelling the Myth of Flow summit, we'll show you how.

HI, I'M YOUR HOST, JESSICA.

I'm an aerial coach and mentor with almost two decades making waves in the circus, pole, and dance industries. While I didn't take a traditional route, when I stumbled onto aerial silks and trapeze in my early thirties, it felt like coming home. I traveled far and wide to seek out teachers who who were as curious as I was about movement. I investigated techniques outside of aerial that unlocked the doors to so many skills. I read. I studied. I read some more. I took every performance opportunity that came my way. And when there weren't many opportunities, I created my own.

I founded my membership, The Parish, to cultivate the feminist AF aerial and pole community that would have blown my mind at the beginning of my journey. When I could not find the technical and creative mentorship that I craved inside of my local studios, I was privileged to travel to find it.  Now I am committed to sharing the wisdom of the many great movers who inform my personal practice. I am so excited for you to hear from them at the Unravelling the Myth of Flow summit.

I, Jessica John, was raised on the traditional, unceded, and stolen lands of the Choctaw people past, present and future. The land already had a name, Bulbancha, meaning “the place of many tongues” (colonized as New Orleans, LA) and was a space of exchange for many Indigenous people, including Atakapa, Caddo, Choctaw, Houma, Natchez, and Tunica nations.
I am a descendent of slaveholders as well as Mandé peoples. The wealth of my family, New Orleans, the South, and the United States as a whole was created on the backs of millions stolen from their home and forced to work without choice, pay, or freedom.
I live and work on the traditional homelands of the Marys River or Ampinefu Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855, Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
I am working to surrender participation in “spheres of coercive hierarchical domination” (H/T Bell Hooks) and “co-create a world where the politics of domination are no longer normal or possible.” (H/T Kelly Diels)
I recognize that sex workers of color are pioneers of pole dance in the United States. I believe that sex work is real work and supporting those engaged in sex work is important.
